What is CBG?

It is important to understand where CBG comes from. Cannabis produces a wide range of molecules, with an average of 100 cannabinoids. Generally, we think first of CBD (cannabidiol) and its many benefits, then of THC, which is considered illegal and has a psychotropic action.

CBG is also a molecule present in hemp. Also called cannabigerol, it is a non-psychotropic cannabinoid found in the cannabis plant. Levels of CBG vary between varieties of the cannabis plant, but are generally found in small amounts, making it difficult to extract.

Currently, CBG is considered to be the precursor to other cannabinoids. Indeed, while this cannabinoid might seem insignificant at first, it is actually responsible for the creation of CBD, THC and other compounds. This explains why it is generally present at concentrations lower than 1% in most varieties of hemp, because it will have been largely transformed.

Still relatively unknown, the effects of CBG interest many scientists and manufacturers of hemp products. Non psychotropic, it is similar to the effects of CBD, or cannabidiol. CBG is beginning to be recognized for its soothing, analgesic, anti-inflammatory and "appetite-boosting" benefits.
