Sciarid flies are tiny black midges. They can be found on plant substrate or fluttering around pots. Their larvae feed on plant roots. Susceptible plants can perish in the event of heavy infestation.
To combat midge larvae, add 1 tablet of Solbac tabs or 2.5 ml Solbac liquid per liter of water and water the plants as usual. The treatment should be repeated after 14 days. The visible effect of the product occurs after 10-14 days. In the case of very severe infestations, we recommend the use of Traunem nematodes.
Tips for preventing sciarid infestations: when buying potted plants or bags of soil, avoid those that are already surrounded by a swarm of flies. Don't over-water and banish stagnant water under pots! Use sticky traps to control the infestation.
