Purple Haze, born in the United States in the 70s, is the name of a variant of cannabis sativa (about 70%), sometimes with traces of indica, it is a plant of purple color and it is very sought-after for its powerful psychophysical effects in the consumer, acting as an analgesic able to increase at the same time the creative capacities and the feelings of euphoria, satisfaction and contentment in its consumer.

The name Purple Haze is linked to the music of the famous singer Jimi Hendrix, released in 1967, when this variety of marijuana was discovered for the first time; the origin of the name Purple Haze has two explanations.

Some sources claim that Jimi Hendrix's piece of music might actually refer to the purple cartoon drug LSD, which was in circulation between the 1960s and 1970s, so the cannabis variant Purple Haze was named after this drug; while other sources claim that the name of the plant, formerly known as Purple Haze, influenced the name of Hendrix's piece of music afterwards, in whose festivals an acid derived from this plant was also sold, specifically named Purple Monterey.

However, the original Purple Haze has been lost and it is believed that this strain comes from two original families, Purple and Haze: the Purple family has many genetic variants, including Purple 1 and Auto Purple, sativa and indica hybrids; while the Haze family is known to be mainly sativa-dominant, and is also richer in THC, the most known active principle of the cannabis; some Haze variants are Lemon Haze, Shining Silver Haze, Chocolate Haze and Amnesia Haze.

Among the most known roots of the Purple Haze, we find the Purple Thai, the Colombian Gold, the Mexican Sativa, the Acapulco Gold, as well as other sativas of India and Thailand, countries of the East in the culture of which the purple color of these varieties of cannabis is associated with the meaning of the nobility.
